The term Mumpreneur has been coined to describe female entrepreneurs who are mothers. It seems many new mums are demonstrating an entrepreneurial flair developing great ideas for products that are currently missing from the shelves of our stores and supermarkets.

The lure of exchanging an unfulfilling office job in favour of setting up a business with flexible hours, an office at home and a possible multimillion-pound fortune is becoming more and more attractive. Yet many women are unaware of the opportunities that exist to support them in bringing these ideas to life.
This is why Sorcit, a company dealing in product design and development is now looking to remedy the situation. The company is launching a nationwide campaign to find ‘The Next Big Kitchen Table Idea’, launched in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week 16-22nd November.
The idea for the competition evolved after Sorcit Managing Director David Fannin worked with mother of three, Helen Rankin to help her to establish her Cheeky Wipes brand – environmentally friendly, reusable and washable baby wipes which not only save money but feature fragrant essential oils rather than harsh chemicals. Helen approached Sorcit to help make her innovative idea a reality, and the results have more than outweighed her expectations.
Sorcit’s “The Next Big Kitchen Table Idea” campaign aims to encourage Mumpreneurs to get their thinking caps on. Budding Mumpreneurs are invited to enter a 200 word outline of their pioneering yet practical business idea via the company’s website.

Judges include David Fannin, Managing Director of Sorcit and former Dragon’s Den contestant and iTeddy entrepreneur Imran Hakim. The winner of the search will be given the opportunity to launch their ideas in the marketplace, receiving £1000 worth of product development and consultancy time from Sorcit.
